G.U.T.S. employs clcinical nurse specialists who are responsible for organising the Screening Programme, and are based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. Thirty-five surgeries local to the Guildford, Surrey, area participate in this entirely self-funded targeted healthcare programme which has screened nearly 20,000 local people.
Questionnaires are used in surgeries to identify those at risk. A simple stool test is provided free. People with a positive stool test are fully investigated, with repeated follow-up tests.

A Colorectal Cancer Family Clinic, staffed by the clinical nurse specialists and funded by G.U.T.S., is held weekly at the hospital. People who have been identified as being at moderate to high risk of developing bowel cancer are counselled and offered a screening plan which may include genetic testing. This is done in conjunction with St. George's Hospital's clinical genetics department.

In addition, G.U.T.S. provides extensive financing for bowel cancer research at the University of Surrey and Frimley Hospital, and is part of the Colorectal Unit at the hospital providing education and information to members of the public and hospital staff.
